Last Thursday, 29-year-old El Paso resident Alexander Diaz entered a guilty plea for the murder of 35-year-old Christopher Ryan Correa. The shooting, which took place outside of the 10-4 Oyster Bar in September 2022, led to Diaz's conviction and a subsequent 50-year sentence in state prison, according to KTSM.
As part of a plea bargain, Diaz waived all his appellate rights, a move noted by the El Paso District Attorney's Office. The agreement also included the dismissal of two charges of tampering with evidence against Diaz. As reported by KFOX-TV, the sentence was handed down on Thursday, pending a more than year-long investigation and legal proceedings.
Surveillance footage from the night of the incident was pivotal in solidifying the case against Diaz. The DA's Office stated, "intentionally and knowingly" causing the death of Correa was captured on camera, which showed both men, along with a friend of the victim, engaging in what would be their final conversation at the East El Paso establishment.
Meanwhile, the case against Rachel Ramona Rivota, the accused driver implicated as an accessory in the fatal event, is still unfolding. Rivota, who was 24 at the time of arrest five days after the shooting, was released on a $100,000 surety bond, with her trial pending. The El Paso Times refers to Diaz's act as a "senseless act of violence," encapsulating the tragic and abrupt end to what began as a night out.
