Tragedy struck again on a city roadway last week, leading to the tenth traffic-related death this year, a sobering toll that continues to draw concern over traffic safety. According to the El Paso Police Department, the Special Traffic Investigations unit responded to a fatal collision in the 3000 block of Delta on March 7.
The unfortunate series of events unfolded as De Santiago was traveling westbound on Delta Street, at the intersection of San Marcial when Armendariz, coming from the south on San Marcial street and attempting a left turn onto Delta, failed to yield the right of way, which led to the tragic collision with De Santiago's 2022 VW Arteon, Armendariz was taken to a local hospital but despite medical efforts, succumbed to their injuries later on.
This recent incident not only marks a grim milestone but also sparks a comparison with the previous year's figures, it's the city's 10th traffic-related fatality against last year's count of 12 during the same period as per the police report. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and details may yet shed more light on the circumstances leading to the accident.
