In a tragic twist of fate yesterday, a high-speed motorcycle crash on US-54 South claimed the life of a female passenger and left the rider with serious injuries, marking the city's 9th traffic fatality this year, a slight decrease from the 11 fatalities recorded by this time last year. According to the El Paso Police Department, the man identified as Verdugo was navigating the motorcycle, a Kawasaki Ninja, onto the ramp leading from US-54 south to I-10 West, at which point he collided with a barrier, causing the deadly accident.
The city's Special Traffic Investigators were dispatched to the scene of the single-vehicle mishap, as Verdugo's companion was pronounced dead at the scene, while Verdugo himself was rushed to a local hospital to treat the dire injuries he sustained in the devastation, this incident serves as a somber reminder of the precarious nature of riding at dangerous speeds, where the margin for error is razor-thin and consequences can prove to be fatal.
