
A single-engine plane crashed near Mt. Dora yesterday morning, resulting in a fire and the death of an adult male in his 70s. Orange County Fire Rescue Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after reports of a possible explosion around 9:30 a.m. at 7001 Jones Ave, close to Bob White Airfield, according to WFTV.
The authorities quickly acted, extinguishing what was described as a small fire resulting from the crash. The sole occupant of the aircraft was the deceased man, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Efforts to definitively identify why the plane crashed are in progress and have yet to yield more information. The incident has now been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for further investigation, as reported by FOX 35 News.
As of now, officials have not publicly speculated on whether the plane was attempting to take off or land prior to the crash. The Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) is also involved in the ongoing investigation, working alongside federal agencies to ascertain the cause of the crash.
