Four individuals were hospitalized after a significant structural event that rocked a neighborhood in East Price Hill, Cincinnati, yesterday evening. According to WLWT, a house explosion occurred around 8 p.m., resulting in one adult male being critically injured with severe burns. Alongside him, another adult and two children also sustained minor injuries. The blast was said to have heavily damaged a two-story single-family home on Elberon Avenue and even impacted a nearby vacant building.
Assistant Fire Chief Matt Flagler told WCPO that "the right side of the building was completely gone," indicating the explosion's force. As a result, the vicinity was cordoned off as investigators and first responders, including approximately 65 firefighters, worked to assess the scene quickly. Debris continued to rain down from the aftermath as emergency crews arrived.
The injured parties were transported to a local hospital. The extent of the destruction was such that concerns arose about the structural integrity of the blasted apartment building, which FOX19 reports is in a state of devastation on the inside and might be at risk of collapse. The Cincinnati Fire Department has not publicly commented on the cause of the explosion as investigations are ongoing. Power service company Duke Energy is also aiding with the investigation, as detailed by Asst. Chief Flagler.
Also noteworthy is another fire earlier the same day in the same vicinity, as reported by WLWT, which tragically resulted in two fatalities and left ten people hospitalized. This recent flurry of fire-related incidents has jarred the community, with many now left to wonder about the safety of their homes and the city's readiness to respond and prevent such devastating occurrences.
