A devastating high-speed crash claimed the life of an individual in Clackamas County over the weekend as investigators piece together the circumstances that led to the fiery accident. Last Saturday, Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an incident near SE 72nd Avenue and SE Alberta Avenue in unincorporated Clackamas County, according to a press release from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
The initial search for the reported crash site left deputies momentarily searching until the discovery of a white 2012 Infiniti Ex35 SUV ablaze on a property near SE Label Lane and SE 74th Avenue. Clackamas Fire crews extinguished the fire to reveal a harsh reality: there was a single occupant deceased within the inferno.
While the driver's identity remains uncertain, Criminal Reconstruction and Forensic Technicians (CRAFT) were on the scene to establish preliminary analysis. Their investigation pins speed as a contributing factor to the crash. The specifics of the tragedy paint a trajectory of the vehicle careening southbound on SE 72nd Avenue, failing to tackle a sharp bend that sent it flying off the road. It met the Springwater Corridor before its final, tragic rest near SE Label Lane and SE 74th Avenue.
