A morning collision yesterday in Orinda between two vehicles has tragically ended with one fatality. The California Highway Patrol's Contra Costa Area office reported the incident on eastbound SR-24 at Wilder Road around 8:20 a.m., according to their social media post. A blue Ford Flex, driven by an adult male, collided with the rear of a red Toyota Corolla. The impact was so severe it resulted in the ejection and consequent death of the driver of the Ford, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The CHP noted that the reasons for the crash are still under investigation, leaving open the possibility that DUI could have been a contributing factor. The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota Corolla escaped without injuries. Following the incident, all lanes of eastbound SR-24 were closed to allow investigators to conduct their work carefully and were later re-opened after several hours.
