Plans to improve Verde River Drive and Parkview Avenue have been pushed to the front of the line in the town’s budget considerations for the coming fiscal year. These enhancements are part of a push to turn downtown into a more aesthetically pleasing and economically fertile area.

With $515,000 from the budget earmarked for design work on these streets, the improved downtown strategy includes pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, benches, and added greenery. The goal is to create a more walkable and appealing downtown while keeping an eye on the bottom line for local businesses and the community, as detailed in the town's published announcement.

The extended plan looks at a five-year horizon, with the Avenue of the Fountains potentially on deck for a facelift that includes wider sidewalks and additional lighting. The hope is that these upgrades will lead to more foot traffic and bring fresh businesses into the fold.

The full budget needs approval from the Town Council, and construction on Verde River Drive won't start until at least summer 2026, pending the green light on funding. Town staff is also discussing a new zoning overlay which awaits scrutiny and approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission.
