The West Memphis Police Department has suspended four of its officers in light of a brewing sexual misconduct investigation. The squad members facing allegations include Major Stacy Allen, Captain Mose Walker, Captain Ivora Hall, and Officer Treasure Gaither. As reported by Action News 5, the department stated that these individuals have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the probe.
West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon expressed his concerns, which are especially heightened given that majority of the officers are high-ranking within the department. According to a report obtained by WREG, this isn't Major Allen's first encounter with such allegations, as previous complaints against him date back to at least 2017. McClendon mentioned, "Now, when they come back up in this same investigation again, they do raise red flags and something we’re going to have to pay closer attention to, to make sure that we didn’t make a mistake on this, on this call."
While the specifics of the allegations remain undisclosed, the mayor confirmed that state prosecutors are also involved in the investigation. West Memphis Police Department Chief of Police Robbin Campbell Jr. reassured the public that the investigation will adhere to established policies to ensure its fairness and completeness. "We take all allegations of misconduct seriously and are committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability," FOX13 Memphis quoted from a statement made by the department.
The city's response to these allegations is under scrutiny, especially considering the historical context of the complaints against Major Allen. West Memphis Police Department added no other details but confirmed that the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, while the investigation continues to unfold.
