The Georgia Safari Conservation Park in Madison has been recognized as one of TIME's World's Greatest Places for 2025. This honor highlights the park's unique experience, which brings a slice of the African savanna to the Southeastern United States., according to Fox 5 Atlanta. The park, placed on a sprawling 530-acre land, houses giraffes, rhinos, addax, bison, eland, impala, among others, and also provides an educational yet thrilling daily safari tour.
In addition to its exotic wildlife offerings, the park has been credited for its economic boost to Madison, a town with a population of about 5,000, and as Fox 5 Atlanta reports, TIME lauds the park for creating new business opportunities since its opening in June 2024, as well as for the inclusivity of its facilities, ensuring that safari vehicles and lodging are wheelchair-friendly. Provided as a safe haven via partnership with Zoological Disaster Response, Rescue, and Recovery, it offers refuge for wildlife impacted by natural calamities.
A little away from Madison, the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park in Macon garners its accolades as well, listed by TIME among the world's most reputed destinations, with both of these Georgian sites being chosen out of the 25 recognized locations in the United States, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution outlines. The historical park is not only a council for ancient mounds from the ancestral Muscogee (Creek) Nation but also doubles as a vibrant canvas narrating tales of four prehistoric cultures over 12,000 years.
Macon Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark, who has been a vocal advocate for elevating Ocmulgee's status to that of a national park, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "It's just kind of nice to see that other people are saying what we've known since we went on our first field trip there in second grade," further acclaiming the location as a key piece in understanding America's history. A quest that not only seeks national recognition but also proposes expansion for Ocmulgee, it continues to draw visitors to its Earth Lodge, 8 miles of trails, the encompassment of the Ocmulgee River, and a visitor center filled with historical exhibits.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes, beyond these two sites, Time's 2025 list features other alluring spots, including Asheville's Radical hotel known for its community support during the Hurricane Helene aftermath and the Palm House, a luxury hotspot in West Palm Beach, Florida, offering grandeur tied with Southern charm.
