Gilbert has become an Autism Certified Community, with its police, fire, and parks and recreation departments completing training to improve engagement with individuals in the autistic community. The city stated that the departments have gained "valuable insights for effectively engaging with individuals in the autistic community, particularly in emergencies situations for public safety personnel."
