In a recent operation, Gilroy police have confiscated firearms and narcotics, arresting a 16-year-old suspected gang affiliate in the process. The crackdown is a collaborative effort by the city's Anti-Crime Team (ACT) detectives alongside various local law enforcement partners.
It began last Tuesday when operatives set to serve search warrants throughout the two cities. The San Jose Police Department's MERGE Team, the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team (SCCET), and the Gilroy/Morgan Hill SWAT team were all involved. In a coordinated strike, they were able to locate and seize multiple firearms, substantial quantities of ammunition, and an assortment of narcotics. A male teenager, whose identity has been withheld due to his age, was taken into custody and has been booked into Juvenile Hall. The post by the Gilroy Police Department detailed the incident and was indicative of the broader issue of youth involvement in gang-related activities.
Gilroy Police Department's social media update not only reports the apprehension and prevention of potential crime but also openly invites the community to participate in creating a safer environment. They have provided an anonymous tip line number, 408-846-0325, for those who wish to report any concerns relating to gang or narcotics troubles in their neighborhoods.
