As the City of Grand Prairie prepares to formally recognize Cesar Chavez/Dolores Huerta Day, residents should be aware of the scheduled closures and service adjustments. The observance on Monday, March 31, will see several city administrative offices shut down, according to an announcement from the city's official website. This holiday honors the legacies of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, two influential activists who fought tirelessly for the rights of farmworkers and their communities.
Essential services, however, will continue to operate without interruption. The city has confirmed that the Landfill and Garbage Collection/Recycling will proceed with its normal collection schedule, ensuring residents can still manage their waste and recycling needs. Also remaining open for public enjoyment will be Epic Waters Indoor Water Park, Prairie Lakes Golf Course, and Tangle Ridge Golf Club, as well as Lynn Creek, Loyd and Britton Parks. Via Grand Prairie services will also be running, and those looking for tourist information will still be able to find assistance at the Tourist Information Center.
On the flip side, various services and facilities are set to pause in honor of the day. The Betty Warmack Branch Library, the Main Library, and the Tony Shotwell Branch Library will close their doors, but the city reminds patrons that items can be renewed online at the library's website or returned to book drops at the three aforementioned locations as well as the Lake Parks Book Locker. Additionally, residents will have to wait a day to conduct business at water bill payment offices and the Municipal Court, as these too will be closed on March 31.
The closures extend to recreational centers as well, including The Summit, Charley Taylor, Dalworth, The Epic, and Tony Shotwell Recreation Centers. For those hoping to take a swim, the Kirby Creek Indoor Pool will not be available. The same holds for the Animal Shelter, which will temporarily shutter its doors. These closures reflect the city's decision to commemorate the day by reducing operations to give staff and community members alike the opportunity to reflect on the contributions of Chavez and Huerta.
Information regarding the schedule for the holiday was made public on March 25th, allowing residents ample time to plan accordingly. For additional details and the latest updates, individuals are encouraged to visit the City of Grand Prairie's announcement.
