The Portland Police Bureau has revealed that the victim of a fatal shooting in East Portland was 17-year-old Junior Garza from Gresham, according to a statement released on their official website. The Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood was rocked by gunfire on Tuesday, leading to a swift response from law enforcement and a subsequent investigation—it was during this investigation that Garza lost his life to what the Medical Examiner has determined as homicide by a gunshot wound.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, which took place at around 10:15 p.m. in the vicinity of the 3000 block of Southeast 136th Avenue, officers from the East Precinct rushed to the scene after being alerted, they found Garza with life-threatening injuries and despite valiant efforts to administer life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries on the spot. As the investigation continues, detectives have reached out to the community for any leads or information while keeping a section of Southeast 136th Avenue shut down between Southeast Division Street and Southeast Powell Boulevard during the ongoing process.
