The Gwinnett County Police Department continues to seek public help in solving a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on September 27, 2024. According to a press release from Gwinnett County, 24-year-old Mecha Woodard of Sandy Springs was struck and killed on State Route 316 during Hurricane Helene’s winds and rain.

Woodard’s car had stalled, and she exited to walk along the road, which was heavily trafficked and dangerous. She was hit in the area between moving traffic and exit ramps by a vehicle that fled the scene. Investigators are searching for a 2019 to 2022 Lexus RX 350 or RX 450 with damage to the front passenger-side bumper and headlight.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward. The suspect vehicle sustained damage to the front passenger-side bumper and headlight, the Gwinnett County Police Department said.
