Tragedy struck the community as Mason Alexander, an 18-year-old Hamilton Southeastern graduate and a freshman cornerback for the University of Pittsburgh, died in a car crash in Fishers, Indiana. Alexander, who had just begun his journey with the Pitt football team, was remembered for his spirited six-minute interview with the media on Wednesday, where he confidently spoke about his role on the field, saying, "I get paid to hit, cover, lock you up, make sure you don’t have one catch on the field," as reported by IndyStar.
The fatal incident occurred when the driver of a BMW, attempting to overtake another car, entered the opposing lane and, upon realizing the impending collision with a northbound Toyota, swerved to the right but overcorrected, leading the vehicle to veer off the road, collide with a tree, and catch fire, as reported by FOX59. The young athlete's untimely passing has left his former high school, as well as the larger Hoosier community, in mourning.
In the wake of this devastating loss, students, friends, family, and the wider Hoosier community have come together to hold tightly to their memories of Alexander and to support one another during this difficult period, a sentiment shared during a gathering that was described by WTHR.
