The Hillsborough Police Department is actively seeking public input to aid in the capture of a suspect involved in the shooting of a police officer last month. A statement released by the department reported that on February 22, an armed suspect attacked an officer after breaching a secure area of the police department's facility on Floribunda Avenue. Despite being wounded, the officer was able to return fire, causing the assailant to flee on foot. It remains unclear if the suspect sustained any injuries during the incident.

In a social media post shared by the Hillsborough Police Department, the assailant is described as a possibly Hispanic male in his mid-20s to mid-30s, standing between 5'7" and 5'10", and weighing around 165 pounds. The suspect, whose confrontation with the officer was fleeting, was last spotted wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and dark jeans and had partially obscured a firearm within a sweatshirt. The department has declared a $100,000 reward for information leading to the suspect's identification and prosecution. "We urge anyone with information—no matter how small it may seem—to come forward and assist us in this critical investigation," said Nelson Corteway, the Hillsborough Police Chief.

To further apprehend the suspect, the Hillsborough Police Department is calling on residents and businesses to review any surveillance footage captured between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the day of the attack. In particular, they are interested in footage surrounding the Floribunda Avenue facility.
