This initiative comes courtesy of the Department of Energy, with Arizona Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego championing the cause that promises to bring not just water, but energy independence to the area.
Dealing with an unreliable water source that's projected to dry up by 2025, the Hopi tribe has found its lifeline in a 250-kW solar microgrid. This microgrid will directly power two critical wells, ensuring that clean water keeps flowing into the homes of those living in the remote stretches of the reservation. "This project means Hopi families will have a steady, reliable water source," said Kelly.
