Delhi Township police are investigating after human remains were uncovered in a wooded area, as reported both by The Cincinnati Enquirer and Local12. Over the weekend, the gruesome discovery was made when individuals looking for deer antlers stumbled upon the remains. In an area described as "steep and secluded" by Delhi Township Police Chief Jeff Braun, provided by FOX19, believing no foul play was involved, the police were searching for more evidence.
Following the initial discovery on Saturday, officers who joined forces with Cincinnati Search and Recovery and EquuSearch Midwest found more remains on Sunday to thoroughly cover the area in an investigation led by the Hamilton County Coroner's Office. According to FOX19, the coroner's sheet reveals that the remains were found within the 6800 block of Hillside Avenue. While some articles suggest the property is privately owned, details around the deceased's identity remain unknown, and there are no immediate safety concerns for the surrounding community.
Upon the initial find, items such as a jacket, gloves, and a shoe with a foot still encased were reported by the family who made the grim find. "They collected everything on Saturday afternoon that they found," Police Chief Jeff Braun told Local12. The search was hindered by darkness, which prompted a more comprehensive search on Sunday when additional human remains surfaced.
"Obviously, there's a loved one that belongs to somebody that we're obviously going to do our best," said Chief Braun, asserting the department's commitment to resolving the case as obtained by Local12. The police are awaiting results from a coroner's examination, with an examination set on Monday, per the information given by FOX19. Delhi Township police are also appealing to the public for any information that can be provided by contacting them directly at 513-922-0062.
