It was a routine day in Dulzura when officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained 38-year-old Daniel Mendivil Esquer, a Mexican national with a rap sheet that raises eyebrows. Last Thursday, ICE officers took Mendivil into custody, citing his criminal history, which includes possession of controlled substance paraphernalia and involvement in criminal street gang activity. This arrest comes as part of ICE's broader strategy to prioritize the apprehension of individuals with criminal histories who are deemed to be a security or public safety threat.
Currently, Mendivil is lingering in ICE custody as he awaits the looming removal proceedings, a process that would see him sent back to Mexico. According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the operation was part of their ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and maintain public safety.
ICE has notably encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected criminal activity or concerns. They provide a hotline - 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) and an online tip form as the avenues for such civic duty.
