Authorities in Knoxville are in the midst of an investigation following the discovery of a body in the Tennessee River yesterday. The Knoxville Police Department reported that the person was found near Lake Loudoun Boulevard, which is in proximity to the University of Tennessee campus.
Personnel from the Regional Forensic Center have taken the body to conduct further examination. According to a statement obtained by WVLT, "The deceased, who has tentatively been identified, was transported to the Regional Forensic Center for further examination." They further stated that "cause of death remains unknown, though there were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play." Detectives are continuing their investigation into this matter to unveil the cause and circumstantial details surrounding the death.
In parallel efforts, detectives from KPD are working on the case with aid from the Medical Examiner's Office. The body's recovery from the water was conducted in the early afternoon and as stated by the WATE news team, "The cause of death has not yet been determined."
While the investigation is ongoing, no additional details about the circumstances leading up to the body's discovery have been shared with the public.
