
An incident at White Pine School in Jefferson County, Tennessee, has culminated in the arrest of a teacher accused of assaulting a 4-year-old student. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Jefferson County School Administration conducted a joint investigation following a report to the School Resource Officer (SRO) about the incident involving a teacher. The teacher, identified as 60-year-old Renee West Murphy of Morristown, now faces charges of child abuse and assault, according to a statement released on social media by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Details surrounding the altercation are not fully disclosed, however, the child was reportedly "physically escorted to the office by Renee Murphy in an 'inappropriate manner,'" as stated by WBIR.
Following her arrest, Murphy was transported to the Jefferson County Detention Center. She has since been released after posting bond. The school district confirmed to WATE that Murphy has been suspended from her position in light of the ongoing investigation.
