The Jenkins Avenue overhaul starts Monday, March 3. As part of the 2019 Bond Project, this major route between Lindsey Street and Imhoff Road will be upgraded. Commuters can still use the road, but expect lane closures and traffic reduced to one lane during construction.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is leading the project, starting with the northern section between Lindsay Street and Timberdell Road. The project is expected to take about a year, so commuters will need some patience. For questions, you can contact Public Works at (405) 366-5453.
Back on April 2, 2019, Norman residents approved the Bond Issue, funding 19 transportation projects. The Jenkins Avenue reconstruction is part of that initiative, designed to improve the city’s roadways with upgrades like better storm drains, improved traffic flow, and enhanced safety for both pedestrians and vehicles. More details are available on the City of Norman’s website.
The project plans call for a divided 4-lane roadway with a landscaped median, along with several upgrades. A 10-foot wide multi-use trail will be added on the east side, while the west side will feature an 8-foot sidewalk for bikers and pedestrians.
