The collision took place shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Linn Street and W. 8th Street. Officers quickly responded to the scene, with emergency services rushing the boy to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
The extent of the boy's injuries has been described as serious, although further details about his condition remain undisclosed at this time. Cincinnati Police have yet to release the boy's age and identity. According to WCPO, a section of W. 8th Street was temporarily closed to allow the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding this distressing event thoroughly. Drivers have been advised to notably avoid the area and seek alternative routes during the investigation.
In a statement obtained by FOX19, Lt. Jonathan Cunningham, a spokesperson for the CPD, stated, "All parties remained on scene following the accident." The CPD’s Traffic Unit has been cited as taking the lead in this investigation. Traffic has been impacted, with local authorities blocking off part of eastbound Eighth Street, near a Marathon gas station just east of the crash site.
Updates on the boy's condition have been scant, but the importance placed on pedestrian safety in light of this incident cannot be overstated. Social media posts from reporters at the scene, including a tweet shared by journalist Nicole Aponte, underscored the immediacy of the response by emergency services and law enforcement. As conveyed by WLWT, "The call came in around 8am this morning. Police have taped off…" the area, indicating that the situation is being taken seriously. As the investigation unfolds, further traffic delays are expected, and motorists are again reminded to find alternate routes to circumvent the affected area.
