
Early this morning, law enforcement authorities in Kalamazoo County intervened to stop a suspected intoxicated driver after their car was seen navigating dangerously on US 131. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office detailed the occurrence on their social media, showcasing their rapid response to the impending threat on the roadway. According to their Facebook post, a deputy patrolling northbound near West D Avenue, identified a vehicle moving in the wrong direction shortly after 1 a.m.
The deputy managed to quickly get ahead of the wrong-way car, pulling into an emergency lane to attempt to intercept. While they signaled for the driver to stop using their emergency lights, the motorist failed to comply. "Portable road spikes were deployed and successfully disabled the suspect vehicle," the post from the Sheriff's Office read. This move proved crucial to safely ending the dangerous driving scenario without resulting in further harm.
WZZM13 provided further insights into the unfolding of the event, noting that no injuries occurred and the only property damage was to the tires of the suspect's vehicle. The driver, a 35-year-old, was arrested on charges of alleged drunk driving and for the possession of suspected illegal drugs. WZZM13's report specified that these events culminated with the driver's apprehension and subsequent detention in Kalamazoo County Jail, where they are awaiting arraignment.
