A tragic accident at Winter Park Ski Resort took the life of a 20-year-old Kansas man on Tuesday morning. As reported by 9News, the skier collided with a tree on Lupin, an intermediate/advanced trail. The incident occurred at approximately 10:52 a.m., and fellow skiers attempted to resuscitate the young man before the ski patrol's arrival.
While guests were performing CPR on the man, the ski patrol responded swiftly to the accident, as confirmed by the Fraser Police Department. After ski patrol took over first response efforts, the skier was transported to Denver Health Winter Park Medical Center at the resort’s base, where he was pronounced dead, as detailed by KDVR.
The individual involved in the crash has not yet been identified publicly. The Grand County Coroner’s Office has taken the responsibility to release the victim’s name and cause of death at a later date. The police have confirmed that the skier was equipped with a helmet at the time of the accident, a detail which does little to mitigate the gravity of the situation nor the sorrow of the loss, as noted by The Denver Post.
