Drivers on I-40 West in Knox County will be required to follow a detour starting this weekend due to ongoing road construction. Starting at 7 p.m. tomorrow, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin redirecting traffic at the Watt Road exit to accommodate the changes.
Motorists exiting I-40 West onto Watt Road (Exit 369) will be redirected to the inside lane, while those entering I-40 West from Watt Road will be shifted onto the inside shoulder. These changes are anticipated to remain in effect until 6 a.m. next Monday, as reported on the official TDOT website.
The construction project is contingent on weather conditions. TDOT advises drivers to expect delays and exercise increased caution, as workers will be present on site during the traffic shifts.
To minimize disruptions, TDOT recommends using motorist information tools to check traffic conditions before traveling. This can help drivers plan alternate routes or adjust travel times. Distractions, such as texting or talking on the phone, can be hazardous in construction zones. TDOT reminds drivers to stay attentive and drive responsibly through this section of the highway.
