The Knoxville Police Department confirmed the incident, which caused a pole to fall and traffic lights to be scattered across the road. As of last night, the intersection remained barricaded while repairs were underway.
This morning, crews working to address the aftermath of the incident successfully restored order. The path was cleared shortly after 6 a.m., according to a report by WATE. While the cause of the crash was not immediately clear, it was later revealed that a 35-year-old man, who has since been charged with DUI and other traffic offenses, was responsible. He reportedly collided with the utility pole at a high speed on Broadway.
Adding to the details of the situation, the Knoxville Police Department's social media update stated, "The 35-year-old man who was driving the vehicle involved in this crash will be charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license and other traffic offenses." It also confirmed that the individual in question was hospitalized, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
