The Knoxville Police Department has issued a notice concerning a spate of thefts from vehicles in the Fort Sanders area, with guns among the stolen items. In a social media post, the department reported that over the past week, at least three firearms had been taken from cars, raising serious concerns about public safety and the responsibility of gun ownership.
According to the Knoxville Police Department's Facebook page, at least two of these thefts occurred in vehicles that were left unsecured. This negligent practice not only facilitates opportunistic crime but also feeds the illicit market for weapons. "Please remember to always lock your car, take your keys and remove or safely secure any valuables, especially firearms, every time you leave your car unoccupied for any amount of time," the department urged.
Community members are reminded to be vigilant and proactive in securing their belongings, particularly firearms.
