In a morning attempted heist, a group of masked individuals targeted a business on Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette but fled empty-handed after failing to steal an ATM. The Lafayette Police Department reported that the attempted theft occurred after a suspect vehicle rammed through the storefront's entrance.

The police were alerted to the scene by a quick-thinking delivery driver who dialed 9-1-1. Upon arriving, law enforcement witnessed two vehicles speeding away from the crime scene, one of which was the stolen vehicle used in the attempted ATM theft. The suspects, numbering between three and five, had their identities obscured by masks. Although a pursuit ensued through the Caldecott Tunnel heading toward Oakland, authorities eventually called it off.
