Las Cruces residents should prepare for the annual tightening of water use as spring turns to summer. Starting April 1, the city is enforcing restrictions aimed at conserving this vital resource during the high-demand seasons. In adherence to the rules, outside vegetation watering from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. is off-limits, as reported by the City of Las Cruces.

Under the established schedule, those living at even-numbered addresses are permitted to water their plants on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Houses with odd-numbered addresses will have to plan their watering for Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. With the environment in mind, all are asked to take a day of rest from watering on Mondays, though the instructions might leave some lawns feeling neglected.

Las Cruces Utilities also runs a voicemail hotline, (575) 528-4444/TTY 711, available round-the-clock for residents to report water waste. Such infractions include watering outside the allowed times, water that escapes the confines of one's property, or using methods other than a bucket and shut-off nozzle when washing vehicles or pavement. When calling to report, providing details such as time and location will assist the officials, as per City of Las Cruces.
