A fatal crash occurred on Highway 216 near milepost 23 in Wasco County on Tuesday at 1:43 p.m. Authorities responded to the scene of the single-vehicle accident, according to the Oregon State Police.
A Ford F150 driven by 72-year-old Samuel Timothy Crafard of Maupin went off the road into a westbound ditch, struck a culvert, and overturned onto its roof. Crafard was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 78-year-old Carol Ann Workman, also of Maupin, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, as reported by the Oregon State Police.
A crash on Highway 216 delayed traffic for about three hours as Oregon State Police investigated with support from the Juniper Flat Rural Fire District, the Wasco County Sheriff's Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident, and no further details have been released about Workman's condition.
