Vision Gallery in Chandler, Arizona, is featuring "M | otherworlds," a group exhibition that showcases works by regional artists who are navigating the transformative landscape of new parenthood. Opening its doors this Saturday, this exhibit aims to bring the voices of artistic mothers to the forefront until June 7.
The theme is all about metamorphosis – from woman to mother, and artist to creator of both life and art. Curator Ashley Czajkowski, a recent entrant into the realm of parenting herself, encapsulates the experience of matrescence, the transition to motherhood. "As a new parent, I found the transition into motherhood and the postpartum period to be more challenging, surprising, but also rewarding, than I expected," Czajkowski shared in a statement obtained by the official Vision Gallery announcement.
This art exhibit is a dive into the surreal, a nod to the strange new realities these women encounter. Every piece in "M | otherworlds" is stitched with the threads of identity, caretaking, and a unique brand of creative world-building that comes with the territory of matrescence. The gallery has thrown an opening reception on Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Vision Gallery is a nonprofit supported by the Chandler Cultural Foundation, and a portion of all art sales funnel directly into Vision Kids, an initiative that provides free educational workshops to the community. The gallery, located at 10 E. Chicago St., is also paired with the Chandler Center for the Arts Gallery, each hosting a wealth of works from over 300 artists that range from oil paintings to sculptures and jewelry.
