
A propane leak caused an explosion and fire at Lake Cove Resort near Dandridge on Thursday, injuring a man. Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Coffey said preliminary findings indicate a gas leak started the fire. The incident happened around 4:06 p.m. and involved at least two campers. The injured man was in stable condition on Friday, as reported by WATE.
A 62-year-old man was inside his camper when it exploded. He was found a few feet away, having rolled out after the blast. Jefferson County EMS treated him at the scene before he was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and then Vanderbilt Medical Center, according to WVLT.
Brad Phillips, Jefferson County EMA Director, reported a fire and possible explosion on Thursday, which local police confirmed occurred outside Dandridge city limits, as mentioned by WIVK. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s arson unit is investigating the cause. Officials continue to assess the aftermath and recovery efforts for the injured man, with more details expected in the coming days.
