A man has been arrested after a standoff with Atlanta Police that led to a tragic discovery. Neil Russell, 44, now faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault, after the incident last Friday at a residence on Oglethorpe Avenue SW.
According to the Atlanta Police Department's preliminary statement, officers conducted a welfare check following concerns about the occupants' well-being; upon their arrival, they encountered resistance from Russell, who initially refused to cooperate with authorities and threatened to harm himself and others. This situation led to a tense standoff. The response included Hostage Negotiators who successfully prompted Russell to surrender and emerge from the property without further incident.
Russell was later detained and transported to Fulton County Jail for processing, as detailed in the arrest update provided by the Atlanta Police Department. Two individuals were found in the property following Russell's compliance, neither alert nor breathing, and were pronounced deceased at the scene by attending officers.
The investigation into the homicide continues, with both the Aggravated Assault Unit and Homicide Unit working together to determine what led to the death. The Atlanta Police Department has not released more details about the victims or the circumstances, but the involvement of a knife suggests a violent incident.
