Charges have been brought against a man following a rash of events beginning with the theft of a Bedford Park police car, leading to the hijacking of a USPS vehicle, and culminating in a crash involving a family. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Miguel Alvarado, is facing aggravated possession of a stolen vehicle and two counts of aggravated reckless driving according to ABC7 Chicago.
Alvarado's spree commenced around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday after Bedford Park officers attended a call near the 6800 block of South Archer Road. After gaining control of the squad car, the suspect drove the vehicle, which was later found deserted at 97th Place and Avon Avenue in Chicago Ridge. It is believed, the squad car got stuck or otherwise became inoperable. Alvarado's subsequent actions involved the forceful theft of a USPS truck from a postal worker, as indicated by FOX32 Chicago.
The pursuit took a turn for the worse when Alvarado collided with a vehicle carrying a mother and her two children, aged 4 and 7. The children were subsequently hospitalized and are reported to be in stable condition. The incident has stirred additional pending charges from other municipalities as observed by a spokesperson for the Village of Bridgeview, who said, "additional charges are expected to be filed."
While the suspect's last known addresses point to Ozone Park, New York, and Beaumont, Texas, the far-reaching consequences of his actions in Bedford Park and beyond reverberate through affected communities. Ray Hanania, the spokesperson for the Village of Bridgeview.
