A man was fatally shot in the Hazelwood neighborhood of East Portland last Sunday night. Police responded to reports of gunfire near East Burnside Street and Northeast 105th Avenue shortly after 7:00 p.m. Officers found the man with fatal injuries. His identity has not been released, as reported by KGW.
Christopher Cruz Ortiz, who was passing by, reported hearing three gunshots. He initially did not think much of the sounds but later realized their significance when law enforcement arrived at the scene. "I was talking to our friend on the phone, and I heard shots. I didn’t know if it’s going to be nearby, but then I looked outside. I saw a lot of crowds," Ortiz recounted in an interview with KOIN. "So then I went to check, and there was a lot of people. So I just imagined it might be here. And it was."
A witness reported hearing an argument before the shooting. Police closed westbound lanes of East Burnside Street between Northeast 102nd Avenue and Northeast 108th Avenue for the investigation. No suspects or motives have been released, as mentioned by KPTV.
