
A Lyft driver in South Memphis was subjected to a carjacking at gunpoint last Thursday evening, with police currently search for the suspect. According to FOX13 Memphis, the Memphis Police Department responded to the incident that took place at the Exxon Gas Station at 833 BB King Boulevard around 9:00 p.m.
The victim, who has not been identified, reportedly picked up the male suspect at S. Main and Madison before heading to the gas station, where the incident occurred. As the driver recounted, the suspect "pointed a black handgun at him and demanded him out of the vehicle" before speeding off with the car. The stolen gray 2020 Toyota Camry was later found abandoned a half-mile away at Mason Street and Tapton Place, as WREG reported.
Details provided by the Memphis Police indicate that the suspect is described as a male around 5’9”, between the ages of 18 and 21, weighing 150lbs, and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jogging pants, armed with a firearm. Action News 5 notes that the suspect remains at large as authorities continue to actively investigate the case.
Memphis Police are urging anyone with information about the carjacking to urgently contact Sgt. M. Warren with the Violent Crimes Unit at 901-636-1920. Alternatively, tipsters can reach out to Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH, and may be eligible for a reward. The anonymity of those who provide tips is guaranteed to be preserved.
