Three police officers from Mentor were recognized for their life-saving actions, displaying quick responses and teamwork in a critical situation. According to the City of Mentor, Patrolmen Ryan Heramb, Jacob Jones, and Jacob Hendrickson received the Lake County Association of Chiefs of Police Life Saving Award last Wednesday. The commendation reflects their valiant efforts during an incident on October 19, 2024, when they administered urgent medical assistance to a driver and his son after a serious crash on Argee Drive.
Patrolman Jones, arriving first at the scene, assessed the situation rapidly. He realized the driver, a 42-year-old man accompanied by his 10-year-old son, was undergoing a cardiac event as his vehicle collided with two trees after veering off the road. "Without hesitation," as the report details via the City of Mentor, Jones began life-saving chest compressions. Shortly after, with life-saving skills in tow, Patrolmen Heramb and Hendrickson arrived to assist, and all three officers took turns providing CPR until Mentor Rescue made their way to the scene.
The efforts of these officers were instrumental in sustaining the driver's life until professional medical help arrived. The driver underwent quadruple bypass surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus and successfully recovered, owing greatly to the swift and coordinated actions of Heramb, Jones, and Hendrickson. It's an undeniable testament to their training and commitment to serving the community under unexpected circumstances.
