Miami-Dade County has launched its Consumer Protection Week, running from last Sunday to Saturday, to help residents make better choices in the marketplace. Mayor Daniella Levine Cava emphasized the importance of empowering consumers, saying, "We are committed to protecting our residents and empowering them with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions," in a Miami-Dade County release.
The week will focus on educating people about their rights as consumers and how to avoid fraud. The Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER) Consumer and Neighborhood Protection Division is offering free services all week, covering topics like motor vehicle repair, merchant complaints, and wage theft.
Several events have been scheduled throughout the week for residents to meet with staff and gather information. Today, meet with staff at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center Lobby. Tomorrow, a special 'Senior Lunch and Learn Session' on fraud will be held at Las Palmas, hosted by Commissioner Eileen Higgins.
The week will conclude with a 'Glow to Thrive Wellness Festival' on Friday night at Tropical Park. This event will provide consumer protection information and opportunities to engage in health and wellness activities.
