Miami-Dade County Public Schools and local government are collaborating to promote sustainability by introducing a green curriculum for young students. The new program, approved by Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert III and School Board Member Joseph Geller, will begin next school year for Head Start, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade classes across the districtm, as per the Miami-Dade County release.
The initiative aims to teach children about recycling and reducing waste, with the goal of fostering long-term environmental responsibility. Commissioner Gilbert emphasized the importance of teaching these habits at an early age, stating, “The habits we teach our children today will shape the adults they become,” in the same release.
The green curriculum aligns with broader environmental efforts and aims to equip young students with the knowledge and tools to become responsible, community-minded individuals. The program will provide hands-on learning opportunities to help students understand the importance of sustainability in real-world contexts.
