Early morning tragedy struck Middletown as a man was killed and his wife was seriously injured after being hit by a pickup truck, WLWT reports. The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. on Friday at Lafayette Avenue and Baltimore Street. Middletown Police responded to the scene, and both victims were treated before being taken to Atrium Medical Center. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his wife remains in critical condition.
In the wake of the crash, the truck's driver has not been identified, and it is unclear whether charges will be brought forward. The Butler County Severe Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team has been enlisted to aid the ongoing investigation. Recounting the incident, a resident conveyed the commonplace of pedestrians along the street and questioned drivers' vigilance, as reported by WLWT. "People walk up and down all the time, and I don't know whether the cars watch for them or not," Debbra Trent said.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of those involved in the accident. Middletown police urge anyone with information about the crash to contact the Middletown Communications Center. FOX19 and WCPO also provided coverage, highlighting the surviving pedestrian's critical status and confirming the accident's time.
As the community grapples with the aftermath, details about the circumstances leading up to the tragic collision remain scarce. The Middletown Division of Police requested assistance from the Butler County Severe Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (START), hoping to piece together the events that have left one dead and another fighting for her life. Family members who were keeping vigil at the hospital told WLWT it was a husband and wife who were struck in the incident, adding a poignant dimension to this tragic event.
