The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is currently seeking assistance from the community after an act of vandalism hit close to Cedar Lake Road and West Franklin Ave.

According to a press statement released by the Board, between February 26 and February 27, someone unlawfully took a chainsaw to approximately five healthy burr and basswood trees next to the pathways by Cedar Point Beach. The damage didn't stop there, some other trees in the vicinity have also been affected during the destructive spree.

Residents or passersby who may have witnessed any unusual activity, including the use of a chainsaw or the felling of trees during this time are being urged to come forward. Investigator John Archer with the Minneapolis Park Police is the designated point of contact for any leads and can be reached at 612-230-6550. Mr. Archer is available between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm from Monday to Friday.

The MPRB is treating this matter with grave concern as the trees represent not only aesthetic value but an ecological one as well. Anyone with information that could aid in the identification of the perpetrator(s), is strongly encouraged to step up. In their communication, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board emphasized, "If you saw anyone using a chainsaw, cutting down trees or any other potentially related suspicious behavior on Wednesday, Feb. 26 to Thursday, Feb. 27 or have any information on the illegal actions, please contact Investigator John Archer."

Even as we await more developments on this, Minneapolis residents are reminded of the importance of preserving our green spaces for the health and enjoyment of our community. The full press release regarding this incident is available on the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's website.
