According to Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board (MPRB), as of yesterday, those keen on summer camps, sports programs, swim lessons, environmental education, and a slew of other activities can now sign up the young ones for a season packed with fun and learning.
The offerings are extensive, with more than a thousand programs available including STEAM classes, teen activities, field trips and nature programs; the MPRB has geared up to ensure kids have an unforgettable summer, the newly introduced youth program fee structure aims to make these experiences more accessible for all families, presenting a sliding scale of discounts based on household income and family size, residents of Minneapolis can now choose what they pay, with discounted rates of 25%, 50%, 75%, and even 100% for eligible applicants, as reported by MPRB.
The new pricing model is a response to the need for a more straightforward and inclusive financial assistance system, rendering scholarships, fee assistance, and free programs more accessible. The programs will now reflect their actual cost, as detailed by the MPRB, which have been calculated to cover staff wages, materials, and other operational considerations, however, there won't be any discounted rates for non-residents.
