A routine check by Minneapolis police officers led to the arrest of two individuals on outstanding warrants and averted what could have been a dangerous incident involving firearms and drugs, according to the Minneapolis Police Department's social media post. The officers spotted a suspicious vehicle that was parked and running, which upon closer inspection contained illegal substances and a handgun.

The encounter occurred when police noticed the car containing two sleeping individuals, both of whom had warrants out for their arrest. Visible from the outside were bags of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The police department's statement highlighted that one of the people inside also had "a handgun on his lap and no permit to carry." The substances found in the vehicle reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl, substances known to be linked with both public health and safety issues.

In a demonstration of proactive policing, police officers intervened and likely prevented a further escalation of the situation. The Minneapolis Police Department commended the officers involved for their swift action, stating, "Great job getting these dangerous drugs and another gun off our streets!"
