The Monroe County community is mourning the loss of Shirley Obert, a 67-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a well following her disappearance after a car crash. Obert, last seen wearing her Chick-fil-A uniform, was involved in a car accident near Abercrombie and Oxford Road on Saturday. Following an extensive search, deputies located her body at the bottom of a well surrounded by thick brush, not far from where her vehicle was found, as reported by Atlanta News First.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, it is believed that Obert was trying to find help when she tragically fell into the well. In a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, the Sheriff's Office indicated there was no suspicion of foul play: "This appears to be a tragic accident."
As the investigation continues, details around the sequence of events leading up to Obert's fall are still being pieced together.
