A tragic incident occurred last Thursday evening in DeBary, Volusia County when a motorcyclist lost his life in a head-on collision with an SUV. The sheriff's office reported that the crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Charles R. Beall and DeBary Plantation boulevards. According to officials, the 54-year-old DeBary resident motorcyclist was heading south on Charles R. Beall Boulevard when the SUV, traveling north, tried to make a left turn onto DeBary Plantation Boulevard directly in the motorcycle's path.
According to FOX 35 Orlando, the road closed following the crash as deputies and emergency responders investigated the scene. Hundreds of drivers were advised to steer clear of the northbound lanes on County Road 17/92, which were redirected to Hollow Pine Drive while the authorities scoured the scene. The Orange City Fire Department joined in the response to the gruesome tableau of destruction and loss.
The aftermath of the accident led to the pronouncement of the motorcyclist's death at the scene, and his passenger was taken forthwith to the hospital, bearing injuries pronounced non-life-threatening by authorities, as detailed by WFTV.
