
A Munford High School teacher, Samuel Colin Day, was found dead Monday morning from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Munford Police Department. Their social media post updated at 10:52 am, reported the discovery of Day's body in a classroom at approximately 6 am, before the arrival of students. No students were present or in danger at the time of the incident.
In a prior update at 8:30 am, the Munford Police imparted that there were no indications of foul play. Munford Police Chief Randal Baskin stated, "All students in all schools are safe," known to us from an official statement. Support from the community and respect for the privacy of the family during this time has been requested.
The incident led Munford High School to close for the day while investigations by the police continued. Chief Baskin confirmed that "the situation has been contained," and he assured stakeholders through an official release, stating there was no ongoing threat to students or the community at large.
