Lourdes Hernandez, 35, has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child neglect, and operating an unlicensed childcare agency in connection with the death of a six-month-old girl. The incident occurred in February of last year, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Authorities responded to a Welshwood Drive apartment, where they found an unresponsive infant, Madison Alberto-Cato. Her mother called 911 after arriving home. Other children were crying, while a man, Hernandez, held Madison and placed water on her head. She was taken to the hospital but did not survive, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
An autopsy found that Madison had Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine found in Benadryl, at nearly three times the recommended adult dosage. On the day of the incident, Hernandez was caring for ten children under the age of three in an unlicensed childcare setting. She was arrested at her new residence on Zermatt Avenue, where several children were present. Hernandez is being held on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Criminal Court on April 2, as stated by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
