Starting April 1, residents north of SW 88th Street in Miami-Dade who use curbside recycling will notice changes to their collection schedule. This update, intended to improve the efficiency and reliability of recycling services, will impact approximately 119,000 customers, according to Miami-Dade County. The goal is to streamline operations and strengthen the program's resilience.
In a significant change, those impacted by the new schedule will receive a postcard in the mail informing them of their updated recycling pickup days for April and May. A new calendar for the remainder of 2025 will be sent out in late May. Customers who do not receive a postcard need not worry, as their recycling days will remain unchanged, particularly for residents south of SW 88th Street, where the schedule stays the same. For those wishing to verify their specific collection days, they can visit Miami-Dade's community services website.
This adjustment is part of a broader initiative designed to improve service delivery and address the issue of recycling contamination, which has long hindered efficient recycling practices. By incorporating advanced technologies such as GPS tracking and video monitoring, the Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) aims to enhance its recycling processes, ensuring that materials are recycled correctly.
Highlighting the importance of resident involvement, the DSWM has provided a comprehensive list of recyclable and non-recyclable items on their recycling website. This resource also offers the latest updates on recycling initiatives for those interested in staying informed and contributing to Miami-Dade's environmental efforts.
